Renewable Energy in the Modern Home

The future of sustainable energy and the home isn’t necessarily anyone’s guess. Both here in the U.S and around the globe various research facilities and experts have already spent a great deal of time developing workable home power options that could be put into practice quickly to reduce the carbon footprint of a home without missing out on things like effective heating, reliable power etc.

Solar Power

Certainly a workable option in brighter climes, solar power is viewed as a first rate potential standalone system for a household. There are two options; either set up the solar panel system on a closed circuit to power a particular element of the household (e.g. heating the water), leaving the rest to be powered by the main grid or alternative means, or b) set up a solar panel system that’s attached to the main grid and can supply power to the home (for free!) or feed surplus power back into the main grid. Several U.K power companies currently operate such buy-back electricity schemes for domestic users.

Heating
For many folks, heating is an ongoing concern. Effective heating in the renewable energy market typically involves energy efficient heating products like electric floor heating. Floor heating uses radiant heat to maintain an ambient temperature in a room, eliminating the cold pockets habitually caused by wall-mounted radiators or air heaters. Under Floor heating systems can be easily powered by home renewable energy sources like biomass, solar power or ground source heating.
